Now You're Doubly Mine

            Faithfully, he was found next to his father learning how to use the big tools. When ready, Liam began his project and after weeks of hard work, he was able to finish constructing his boat.

            That little boat was his best friend. It was the one he could talk to because it would always listen. He told his boat stories at night and secrets during the day.

            One afternoon, Liam took his boat to the river for a swim. He had tied a little string on the front of the boat so he could keep it close to him. While swimming and laughing, he failed to realize that the string came undone and the boat drifted down stream. He frantically searched the banks, but couldn’t find his boat. Prayer after prayer was sent up to his Father, day after day. His boat never returned home.

            Liam was found walking through town a couple weeks later; something colourful caught his attention. Glancing into a thrift shop window, he saw a boat. It wasn’t just any boat: it was HIS boat! He stumbled to the counter and blubbered, “SIR! That’s my boat! You have my boat right over there in that window.” “I’m sorry, that boat was sold to me just a few days ago. If you want it, you’ll have to buy it.”

            After working wherever he could—whether washing windows, walking dogs, or taking out the trash—He got his money. Hoping the boat didn’t get sold to someone else, Liam ran to the store as fast as he could. It was still there! He gave the money to the clerk and walked out with his boat. “First I made you and you were mine, now I paid for you and you’re doubly mine.”

            We are Christ’s because He made us. After making us, He paid the price to make us doubly His.
